fashion candy: chanel resort 2009

a few yummy knits from karl lagerfeld's chanel resort 2009 collection make me want to sip mint julep's in a big wicker peacock chair...

oh and listening to these lyrics as i sip the mint julep...

"Aruba, jamaica ooo I wanna take you
To bermuda, bahama come on pretty mama
Key largo, montego baby why dont we go

Ooo I wanna take you down to kokomo
Well get there fast
And then well take it slow
Thats where we wanna go
Way down to kokomo

To martinique, that monserrat mystique

Well put out to sea
And well perfect our chemistry
By and by well defy a little bit of gravity

Afternoon delight
Cocktails and moonlit nights
That dreamy look in your eye
Give me a tropical contact high
Way down in kokomo

Aruba, jamaica ooo I wanna take you
To bermuda, bahama come on pretty mama
Key largo, montego baby why dont we go

Ooo I wanna take you down to kokomo
Well get there fast
And then well take it slow
Thats where we wanna go
Way down to kokomo"

inspiration book candy: old national geopraphic clippings part 2

inspiration book candy: old national geopraphic clippings part 1

so i am constantly ripping little bits of eyecandy from any magazie i pick up. some these little bits end up staying in my small purse pockets and suprise me months or years later. but usually they end up in a notebook. i recently was looking at my 2004 notebook and found the treasure trove of images that i had pulled from old national georaphics. they are from the 60's, 70's and 80's. for work i used stacks upon stacks of these yellow bound magazines as props. i inevietably went through every single one. and here is a sampling of what caught my eye...

movie candy: prime cut

I just watched prime cut for the second time. movies today just aren't as great as ones made in the 70's. sissy spacek and lee marvin can make running from a giant thresher hot. and what a perfect dress to wear in the fields running from death. great styling.

case study: vintage drinking glasses

here is the case... we all drink liquids so why not drink out of vintage drinking glasses. great for the usual... water, sweet tea, old fashioneds, mint juleps, cider, and the occasional shirley temple. trust me there is a cup out there for everyone's taste. if i see any vintage cup set at the thrift store it inevitably ends up coming home with me. i have a cup for every ocassion. so here is a quick list of all the major players in the vinatage drinking glass world: culver, libbey, federal, and couroc. couroc glasses are usually marked with the couroc name on the front of the glass. couroc is also famous for their bakelite trays. read more here about the trays. a cool history... couroc
the other brands are usually unmarked unless you find a set in its original box. here is quick read on the history of promotional glasses... read about collecting vintage glasses
a quick way to get started is on ebay. Look here... vintage drinking glasses on ebay
here are a few sets that were listed on ebay...

in any case, a girl can never have too many vintage drinking glasses. my vintage drinking glasses sit in my display cabinet just as my vintage ferragamos sit in my closet anxiously waiting to be used/worn for the perfect occasion.

fashion candy: all tied up... lanvin fall 2008

who doesn't like something all wrapped up in a bow? i have always loved the bow. a big black vintage grosgrain one once adorned my floral wallpapered wall. strong, solid, and sweet. alber elbaz's fall 2008 collection for lanvin was a runway of bows and it was just that... strong, solid, and sweet. using grosgrain ribbons as fabric, he created the ultimate bows. the kind a girl can wear...

hearts for alber elbaz.
(look at his cute bow tie. all men should wear bow ties.)
